June 5, 2009

LOS ANGELES –The Eisner Foundation awarded $115,000 to eight small to mid-sized emerging organizations to encourage innovation and creativity and to reward entrepreneurial organizations with visionary leadership as part of the Seed Grants Program.  Awarded two times a year in June and December, the seed grants range from $5,000 to $15,000 over one year.

Grant recipients include:  Friends of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, Fuller Psychological and Family Services, Girls Today Women Tomorrow, Glendale Healthy Kids, Paramount Care Foundation, Peer Health Exchange, Sharefest, and Urban Compass. All of the grantee organizations share commonalities such as strong leadership, a specific focus on vulnerable populations, and innovative programming.  By partnering with these organizations, The Eisner Foundation hopes to develop best practices for working with small organizations and measure the effectiveness of seed grants in capacity building of nonprofit organizations.

“Our goal with our seed grants program is to identify those organizations that are doing great work that may lack the visibility and access their larger competitors do,” said Trent Stamp, executive director of The Eisner Foundation.  “The non-profit sector in Los Angeles is diverse, and many of the smaller groups could achieve tremendous results, if only they had some well-connected champions on their side.”

As part of the overall giving portfolio, The Eisner Foundation also approved $1,206,500 in competitive grants during the second quarter of 2009. For a list of all our recent grants, please click here.
