The Eisner Foundation Announces The Expansion of Funding Focus to Include Aging
September 1, 2008
BACKGROUND
The Eisner Foundation has been funding innovative and effective non-profit organizations that improve and enrich the lives of underserved children in Southern California since 1996. In 2008, we recognized that many of the same attributes that the children we serve unfortunately possess—physical and emotional vulnerability, extreme poverty, lack of advocacy on their behalf, minimal access to the arts, and general powerlessness—also applied to many members of our rapidly aging population in the community. We thus elected to broaden our funding focus to include those at both ends of the spectrum of life, the young and the old. We are now dedicated to bringing about lasting changes in the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people starting and ending their lives in Los Angeles County.
WHAT WE FUND
The Eisner Foundation exists to provide access and opportunity for disadvantaged children and the aging in Los Angeles County. For the aging, we strive to provide lasting change in the lives of older adults, with a special emphasis on those that are especially vulnerable due to poor health or poverty. We pursue this objective by partnering with high-performing non-profit organizations that advocate on behalf of seniors to provide access to:
- Health care;
- Safety in their environments;
- Cultural enrichment;
- Opportunity to age with dignity.
